Essex-area boy, 6, found dead in creek

April 14, 1992

A 6-year-old Essex-area boy died after he apparently fell into a creek and drowned near his Redthorn Road home yesterday afternoon, police said.

Baltimore County police said the child's name was being withheld because his father, who may be in California, had not been notified.

The child, who lived in the 2200 block of Redthorn Road in the Hawthorne section of Essex, was reported missing at 7:25 p.m. by his mother. It was believed that he fell into Dark Head Creek from an embankment where he had been playing 10 feet above the water.

The boy's mother told police he had left home about 4 p.m. to play in nearby Kingston Park and was to have returned around 5 p.m.

After several neighbors and friends were unable to find the boy, the police were called. A short time later, an Essex District officer spotted the body floating face down in about 18 inches of water. The location on Dark Head Creek is about four blocks from the child's home.
