POLICEMAN ROBBED: Northwestern District -- Officer Kevin Banks, 34, of the Central District, reported he was robbed of his .38-caliber off-duty service revolver, his 1987 Volvo, his body armor and a police department shirt early yesterday by two masked men, one with a handgun, who accosted him as he made a phone call in the 3800 block of Forest Park Ave. Officer Banks reported he was in civilian clothes and talking on the phone at 4:50 a.m. when two men wearing ski masks approached him from behind and announced a robbery. Police said that when Officer Banks reached for his gun, one of the men struck him on the neck with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun. The men then stole Officer Banks' stainless steel Smith & Wesson Model 60 revolver and drove off in his car with license plate HGA-060. In the car were the body armor and Officer Banks' police shirt. Police said Officer Banks received a minor neck injury that did not require medical treatment.

SHOOTING/ARREST: Eastern District -- Police arrested Kenneth Eugene Crowder, 18, of the 900 block of N. Durham St., and charged him with the attempted murder of a 15-year-old during an argument over a basketball game. Police said that about 6:30 p.m., Dwan Lewis, of the 800 block of N. Broadway, and the accused were involved in a dispute about a basketball game they had played earlier yesterday when the accused went into his house, got a small-caliber handgun and allegedly shot young Lewis in the face. Police said the victim was in critical condition today at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Police arrested Mr. Crowder at his house, where he turned over to them a gun believed to have been used in the shooting. Police said Mr. Crowder was charged with assault with intent to murder, using a handgun in the commission of a felony, and assault. He was being held at the station lockup pending a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 600 block of N. Carrollton Ave. reported that someone broke into his home last week and stole a clothes washer and a dryer, valued at more than $1,000. Police said the house was undergoing renovations at the time.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A resident of the 1100 block of Whitmore Ave. was walking in the 2300 block of W. Baltimore St. shortly before 4:30 p.m. yesterday when he was stopped by a man who engaged him in conversation. Police said the man pulled out what appeared to be a .38-caliber revolver and ordered the victim to remove the gold necklace he was wearing. Police said the gunman also robbed the victim of food stamps.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Two men, one armed with a sawed-off shotgun, accosted a resident of the 800 block of Edmondson Ave. as he walked in the 900 block of Harlem Ave. late yesterday evening and robbed him of $20.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 1800 block of Edmondson Ave. reported that someone broke into his home over the weekend by removing the front door from its hinges and stole a camera, leather coat and close to $150.

BURGLARY: Western District -- Someone broke into a dwelling in the 1000 block of Claymont Ave. between 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. yesterday by forcing the front door and stole a framed picture valued at $500.

ROBBERY: Western District -- After a resident of the 600 block of N. Fulton Ave. got off a bus in the 600 block of N. Mount St. shortly before 3 a.m. yesterday, he was stopped by two men, one with a handgun, who robbed him of more than $100.

THEFT: Northern District -- Someone broke into two cars parked in the 4700 block of Club Road over the weekend and stole property valued at nearly $275. One victim, a resident of the 1500 block of Glencoe Road in Sparks, Baltimore County, told police that someone broke a window on his 1989 Jeep and stole a Dictaphone valued at $150. The second victim, a resident of the 300 block of Dunkirk Road in Baltimore County, said someone broke the vent window on his 1992 Volvo and stole more than $120 from the glove compartment.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 2800 block of Guilford Ave. reported that someone broke into her home over the weekend and stole a VCR and a bike valued at $600.

THEFT: Northern District -- Someone cut the convertible top of a car parked in the 100 block of Ridgewood Ave. Saturday night or yesterday morning and stole clothing and cassette tapes valued at more than $1,000.

THEFT: Northern District -- An out-of-town resident told police someone broke into her car while it was parked in the 5500 block of St. Albans Way over the weekend and stole stereo speakers and a gym bag valued at more than $600.

THEFT: Northern District -- Police were seeking a man who reportedly entered a dwelling in the 4400 block of Falls Bridge Drive between April 1 and April 8 and stole property valued at more than $16,600. Police said the victim, who apparently knows the man, reported he stole more than $1,600 and five diamond rings.
