Commissioner's Office -- Approved the nomination of Joseph Molloy, George Steinbrenner's son-in-law, as managing director of the New York Yankees.

Cincinnati Reds -- Placed 3B Chris Sabo (sprained right ankle) on the 15-day DL. Called up IF Jeff Branson, the team's top draft choice in June 1988, from Triple-A Nashville.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Placed OF Lenny Dykstra (fractured styloid of the left ulnar bone in his wrist) on the 15-day DL. Recalled OF Julio Peguero from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Called up OF Brian Jordan (Milford Mill) from Triple-A Louisville.

San Diego Padres -- Traded 3B Tom Redington to the Chicago White Sox for P Lenny Brutcher. Assigned Brutcher to Single-A ** High Desert.

Texas Rangers -- Recalled P Brian Bohanon from Triple-A Oklahoma City and announced he will start Saturday night.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Placed OF Derek Bell (fractured hamate bone in wrist) on the 15-day DL. Recalled IF Jeff Kent from Triple-A Syracuse.

NBA -- Fined New York Knicks F Charles Oakley $2,500 for hitting Isiah Thomas with his forearm in a game on April 7. Named Gary Brokaw manager of basketball operations.

Los Angeles Lakers -- Signed F Cliff Robinson for the remainder of the season.

Miami Heat -- Announced that F Willie Burton has entered a medical facility for treatment of depression and will miss the rest of the season.

Sioux Falls Skyforce -- Announced the resignation of GM Leo Parent. Promoted assistant coach Clay Moser to GM.

Global Basketball Association -- Announced the Greensboro City Gators intend to withdraw from the league.

Miami Tropics (USBL) -- Signed Roy Tarpley, former Dallas Mavericks center-forward who has been banned from the NBA for repeated substance abuse.

B6 Philadelphia Spirit (USBL) -- Signed G Roy Marble.

Colleges

NCAA -- Accepted self-imposed sanctions by Vanderbilt on its women' basketball program that will include a limit in official paid visits and grants-in-aid.

Cal-State Fullerton -- Named former Washington Bullet Brad Holland, a basketball assistant at UCLA for the past four seasons, head coach at Cal State-Fullerton.

Massachusetts -- Signed men's basketball coach John Calipari to a four-year contract.
