UMBC falls to Penn State, 12-11, in OT

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Mike Busza scored three goals -- including the game-winner 32 seconds into overtime -- to lead Penn State (6-0) over UMBC (8-2), 12-11, yesterday.

The Retrievers trailed through most of the first three quarters, but tied the game on a goal by Jason Smith with seven seconds left in the third period.

UMBC took its first lead with 3:39 left in the game on a score by Tim Stecher, but Penn State tied the game on an unassisted goal by Chris Lehman with 44 seconds remaining.

Jamie Batley and Steve Marohl led the Retrievers, combining for five goals and five assists.

Senior Bob Bailey (Fallston) had 26 saves for UMBC.

Lehman finished with two goals and two assists for Penn State.

The Retrievers have lost their past five games to the Nittany Lions by a total of eight goals.
