SERVICE NOTES

ANNAPOLIS — Marine Lance Cpl. Michael J. McGranahan, a 1987 graduate of Broadneck High School, recently returned with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit to Camp Lejeune, N.C., after a six-month deployment to the MiddleEast.

He took part in various exercises and operations, includingOperation Eager Mace, which included over 7,000 service personnel and was the first major U.S.-Kuwait combined exercise of the post-war period.

McGranahan joined the Marine Corps in 1988.

WENZ COMPLETES TRAINING

Spc. Thomas E. Wenz II has completed Army basic training at Fort Knox, Ky.

He is a 1984 graduate of Broadneck Senior High School and a 1989 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park.

TEGEN AWARDED MEDAL

Army Maj. Carl Tegen has been awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal, which is awarded to people who demonstrate meritorious achievement or service while assigned to multiservice activities.

He is a battalion executive officer at Rheinland Kaserne,Karlsruhe, Germany.

JOHNSON RECEIVES MEDAL

Spec. James A. Johnsonhas been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal for his outstanding performance of duties as an infantryman at Fort Bragg, N.C.

DICKERSON IS HONORED

DATELINE: ARNOLD

Staff Sgt. John G. Dickerson has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal for the meritorious performance of his duties.

He is a multichannel communications system team chief at Fort Bragg.

CRUM ENLISTS

Jill J. Crum recently enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve's Delayed Training Program, and will report for basic training June 22 at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Crum will take advanced training with her unit, the 214th Military Intelligence Companyin Owings Mills. She will be an imagery analyst.

BICKFORD WITH MARINES

DATELINE: DAVIDSONVILLE

Marine Cpl. Brian T. Bickford is now serving in the Mediterranean with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., for a six-month deployment.

He has taken part in a number of operations and exercises to challenge the mission readiness of his unit.

The 1987 graduate of South River High School in Edgewater joined the Marine Corps that same year.

JESSE IS PROMOTED

DATELINE: EDGEWATER

Marine Pfc. Carlos J. Jesse recently completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C., and was promoted tohis present rank.

He joined the Marine Corps in 1991.

MCLAUGHLIN HONORED

DATELINE: FORT MEADE

Marine Cpl. Hershel D. McLaughlin recently received a Meritorious Mast, honoring his outstanding service with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165 of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

He joined the Marine Corps in 1987.

BARNES IN GERMANY

Army Pvt. James E. Barnes, a record telecommunications center operator, has arrived for duty at Azbill Barracks, Ruesselsheim, Germany.

O'BRIEN AT SEA

DATELINE: GAMBRILLS

Navy Lt. Cmdr Eugene J. O'Brien, a 1974 graduate of Arundel Senior High, is now in the Mediterranean aboard the dock landing ship USS Whidby Island, homeported in Norfolk, Va., during a six-month deployment.

CARR ABOARD CARRIER

Navy Apprentice Seaman Phaon R. Carr is serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS America during its currently six-month deployment in the Persian Gulf.

The ship has made a number of port calls in the area as well as in the Mediterranean.

Carr joined the navy in 1990.

CORY ARRIVES FOR DUTY

Air Force Sgt. Todd W. Cory, a secure communication system maintenance specialist, has arrived for duty at Griffis Air Force Base, N.Y.

SUESSEABOARD CRUISER

DATELINE: GLEN BURNIE

Navy Chief Petty Officer Anthony G. Suesse, a 1977 graduate of of Glen Burnie High School, is nowin the Mediterranean aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Monterey during its current deployment.

He joined the Navy in 1979.

BEHM RETURNS HOME

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class John J. Behm recently returned home aboard the mine countermeasure ship USS Guardian after an eight-month deployment to the Persian Gulf.

His ship was involved in numerous mine-sweeping activities, as well as helping to search fortwo aircraft lost after the war. Behm also visited a number of foreign ports.

TIPPETT TRAVERSES CANAL

DATELINE: LINTHICUM

Navy Lt. Thomas A. Tippett recently transited the Suez Canal aboard the destroyerUSS John Hancock on the way to the Persian

Gulf for a six-month deployment.

SANN ENDS TRAINING

Marine Pfc. Wallace R. Sann has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.

KRYSTOFIAK RETURNS

DATELINE: PASADENA

Marine Cpl. Christopher R. Krystofiak recently returned with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit to their base at Camp Lejeune, N.C.,following a six-month deployment to the Middle East.

The 1987 graduate of Northeast High School in Pasadena joined the Marine Corps that same year.

BORCHETTI GRADUATES

Airman Joseph W. Borchetti has graduated from AIr Force Basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.

He graduated from Chesapeake High School in 1991.

KLINE FINISHES COURSE

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Charles E. Kline recently completed the Navy Security Guard Course.

During his six-month course, he was trained in the laws, regulations, and procedures governing law enforcement programs, as well as procedures for apprehension,search and seizure, riot control, drug abuse detection, small arms, waterfront defense and anti-terrorism tactics.

He joined the Navy in 1984.

BURKE DECORATED

DATELINE: RIVA

Army Pfc. Scott W. Burke has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal for meritorious service and other outstanding accomplishments.

He is an indirect-fireinfantryman at Camp Greaves, South Korea.

Burke graduated from South River High School in Edgewater in 1990.

HEWITT ENDS TRAINING

DATELINE: SEVERN

Navy Constructionman Recruit Jason D. Hewitt recentlycompleted basic training at Recruit Training Command in Orlando, Fla.

The 1988 graduate of Old Mill Senior High School in Millersvillejoined the Navy Reserve in 1991.
