Under Wraps

SHOOSH! Steam jumps

from cloth to air

like a genie.

One yank and the

dummy's lost his shirt;

the shirt's on a hanger

near the wall calendar

where a brook in winter

rambles through

the days and weeks of shirts. Simplicity itself

A three dollar chicken

Bought without thought

Of hunger or need

Slipping through my hands

Under the cleansing stream

Where warmth and food

Are so easily taken for granted

Hail suburbia

Three dollar chicken

You would be gold to some
