Pregnant woman goes into labor in fire-truck crash

March 29, 1992

Four people were injured, and a pregnant Lutherville woman went into labor when a fire truck hit their Volvo station wagon on York Road yesterday afternoon, Baltimore County police reported.

John Black Sr., of the 8600 block of Chelsea Bridge Way, who was driving the Volvo, was making a left turn onto York Road from the parking lot at Central Vocational-Technical School at 12:15 p.m., police said. The pumper truck from the Lutherville Company had its lights and siren on when it hit the Volvo and spun it around.

Mr. Black's 3-year-old son, Thomas Black, was taken by helicopter to Johns Hopkins Hospital, police said. He was reported in stable condition last night.

Mr. Black's wife, Susan Black, 34, went into labor and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, police said. Mr. Black, another son, John Black Jr., 6, and a friend, Christopher Clements, 4, also were taken there.

Their conditions could not be determined last night.
