An 18-year-old Annapolis man was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon after he was seen on Main Street with a sword sheathed within a cane, authorities said yesterday.
Two sheriff's deputies working in the agency's warrant service division were driving onMain Street around 10 p.m. Friday when they saw a man approach a group of people and withdraw a 24 1/2-inch blade from a cane, said Sgt. Charles E. Nelson, county sheriff's department spokesman. When the man saw the deputies, he slid the sword into the cane, Nelson said.
Charged with possession of a concealed dangerous weapon -- identified in charging documents as a "cane/knife" -- was James Anthony Powell of the 200 block of Farragut Road.
