James P. Stromberg, a retired Baltimore police colonel, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital from complications of cancer. He was 67 and lived in Ellicott City.
A Mass of Christian burial for Colonel Stromberg will be offered at 9 a.m. tomorrow at the Roman Catholic Church of the Resurrection, Paulskirk Drive at Chatham Road, Ellicott City.
He retired in 1985. He had been chief of the department's Community Service Division for much of the time since 1978. In 1983 and 1984, he commanded the Traffic Division.
He joined the department in 1948.
The Baltimore native was a 1943 graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School.
Colonel Stromberg is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Spedalere Gill; a daughter, Teresa Stromberg of Baltimore; two sons, Donald Stromberg of Columbia and James Stromberg of Catonsville; a stepson, John Gill of Eldersburg; a sister, Katherine Hildt of Randallstown; and six grandchildren.
