Milwaukee Brewers -- Sent P Mark Lee, P Darren Holmes, P Otis Green, P Michael Ignasiak, P Eric Nolte, P Efrain Valdez, C Dave Nilsson and OF Matias Carrillo to minor-league camp for reassignment. Gave OF Kenny Williams his outright release.

San Francisco Giants -- Placed P Scott Garrelts on the 60-day disabled list.

Seattle Mariners -- Optioned P Brent Knackert, P Clint Zavaras, C Chris Howard and C Jim Campanis to Class AAA Calgary. Optioned C Greg Pirkl to Class AA Jacksonville. Sent P Mark Grant and P Jose Nunez to minor-league camp for reassignment.


Newberry -- Announced the resignation of Kevin Nunley, women's basketball coach.

Cleveland Browns -- Signed Plan B free agent RB James Brooks, who has gained 7,864 yards on 1,667 career carries (4.7 average) for 49 touchdowns.

Minnesota Vikings -- Signed RB Roger Craig, S Vencie Glenn, WR-KR Kendall Smith and former Maryland TE Mike Tice

New York Giants -- Signed RB Greg Amsler.

Dallas Texans (Arena) -- Named John Paul Young coach.


Los Angeles Kings -- Recalled D Rene Chapdelaine and G David Goverde from Phoenix (IHL).

St. Louis Blues -- Signed D Bret Hedican.
