Students To Plant Trees

Over 600 students from the Annapolis Area Christian Schools will help kick off "Tree-mendous Maryland Month," between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. April 2 by planting thousands of trees at the intersection of Interstate 97 and Benfield Road.

This event will help reforest land cleared by highway construction and serve as a school fund-raiser. Younger children will work for short periods under the guidance of school staff and older pupils.

During March, students will ask neighbors and local businesses tosponsor them with pledges for each tree planted.

SCHOOL BOARD VACANCIES

There are two Anne Arundel County school board vacancies to be filled -- one in District 32 and one at large.

Candidates must be willing to serve a five-year term, be a resident of the district in which the vacancy has occurred, not be employed by the board or interested in profit on any board contract.

Candidates must be sponsored by non-partisan and non-profit organizations of 10 or more mainly adult members, which have bylaws, and have been existence for one year.

The deadline for applications was March 7. Delegate designation forms must be received by March 20.

There will be three opportunities for candidates to be heard and discuss their views and goals with the public. The dates are 7 p.m. April 7 at Southern High School in Harwood; 7 p.m. April 16 at Meade High School at Fort Meade; and 7 p.m. at Glen Burnie High.

Voting takes place at 7 p.m. May 6 at Severna Park Senior High.

EXPLORERS CAMP OPEN

The Echo Science Explorers Camp islooking for students interesting in learning about the Chesapeake Bay.

Students in grades five through seven are invited to spend their days outdoors canoeing, hiking and seining.

The program runs between June 29 and July 3.
