Mount women lose title game, 78-55

EMMITSBURG -- Fairleigh Dickinson (23-6) defeated Mount St. Mary's, 78-55, in the championship game of the Northeast Conference women's tournament at Knott Arena last night. It was the third straight title for FDU.

The Mount made only seven of 37 first-half shots from the field, did not score for the last 2:30, and trailed at the break, 35-22.

In the second half, the home team used a 10-2 burst to slice the margin to eight points with 5:31 to play, but it would get no closer.

Heather Wable and Vanessa Blair each had 14 points to lead the Mount, and were named to the all-tournament team. Blair was also the team's high rebounder with nine.

Tournament most valuable player Barbara DeShields was FDU's high scorer, heading five double-figure scorers with 17. Completing the All-Tournament team were Felicia Griffin, FDU; Rita Bernert, FDU; and Belinda Strong, Long Island University.
