Five county coaches with a combined tenure of 74 years were honored Thursday night for their "significant contributions to interscholastic sports."
Mike Hampe (Old Mill wrestling), Lynn Pitonzo (Northeast softball), Joyce Stefancik (Severna Park girls soccer), John Brady (Annapolis boys basketball) and Bernie Walter (Arundel baseball) received the Bob Pascal Award at a ceremony at Kaufmann's Restaurant in Gambrills.
The award has been given annually since 1984 by the Anne Arundel County Coaches Association.
Hampe's team just won an unprecedentedfourth-straight Class 4A-3A state championship. His teams have gone 175-22-3 over a 16-year period.
Pitonzo has won seven state championships, including four in a row. Her 13-year record is 222-51.
Walter won the 4A state title last spring, his fifth, and owns a 298-98career record in 18 seasons.
Brady, who has led the Panthers to 11 regional titles in 15 years, won the 4A state championship during the 1989-1990 season. He has a career record of 318-54.
Stefancik'sFalcons had their string of three straight 4A-3A state championshipsended during the fall. She owns a 12-year record of 132-35-5.
