Council Sets Hearings On Fee Increases

The Harford County Council has scheduled public hearings for April 14 on two bills that would raise fees for county services.

The first public hearing -- at 6 p.m. in the council chambers, Level A of theCounty Courthouse in Bel Air -- will be on a bill to raise the fee for taking stray dogs or other animals to the Harford County Humane Society, which serves as the county's pound. The bill would raise the fee to reclaim an animal from $10 to $20. The bill also would raise the charge for board from $5 a day to $10 a day. If the council approves the bill, it would take effect 60 days from the date of the vote.

A second public hearing, on a bill that would raise the cost of avariety of permit, license and service fees, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Under the bill, for example, the penalty for being issued a stop-work order would be raised from the current $25. to $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second and $300 for the third.
