'Strong image'

It's your call

March 11, 1992

"Science on the half shell," Mayor Kurt Schmoke's term for an architect's proposal for the $161 million Christopher Columbus Center for Marine Research and Exploration, is a popular menu item among a majority of SUNDIAL callers. Among respondents, 154 (56 percent) favor the idea of a "strong image" building for the Inner Harbor resembling a giant shell with a sculptured white roof that would stand out in daylight and glow at night. Those favoring a more traditional structure numbered 122 (44 percent).

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as would be done in a scientific public opinion poll.
