Armed men hold up armored truck guard at city restaurant

March 11, 1992

Two armed men entered a crowded McDonald's restaurant today, ordered an armored truck guard to the floor and fled with a bag containing an undisclosed amount of money.

Police said no shots were fired and no one was injured in what police described as a very quick robbery that went unnoticed by a second guard waiting in the armored vehicle.

Investigators said the Federal Armored Express guard entered the McDonald's in the 4200 block of W. Northern Parkway about 10:15 a.m. to pick up cash receipts.

As she began to leave the building with the money, she was confronted by two tall men armed with what appeared to be 9mm semiautomatic handguns.

The men, who had been standing near the counter, ordered the guard to the floor and grabbed her money bag and her revolver, police said.

They ran out a door on the opposite side of the building from where the second guard waited in his truck, unaware of the robbery.

The robbers fled in a burgundy Honda Accord and drove north on Reisterstown Road, police said.
