To teach children the value of maintaining good health, the YMCA will sponsor Healthy Kids Day, Saturday. Educational games and activities will be held at all seven branches of the YMCA of Greater Baltimore to encourage children and families to exercise for physical and mental health.
A fitness evaluation of each participant will be done, based on a "Healthy Lifestyle" hike through the Y's buildings with stops at nine activity stations. Results will determine the child's overall physical condition taking into account body composition, muscle structure and endurance, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness.
The program will teach kids the importance of good health, says YMCA Associate Executive Director Nancy Friday, "If they can learn to live healthier, they'll feel better about themselves, and this self-confidence will carry over into everything they do."
