Baltimore City

STABBING: Southeastern District -- Police said a 22-year-old man was listed today in critical condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital after he was stabbed. Police said residents of a house in the 700 block of N. Lakewood Ave. heard someone banging on their front door shortly before 3 a.m. When they went outside, they found the man sitting on their porch. Homicide Detective Robert McAllister said the man, whose name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, had been stabbed in the back. He was unable to give police any details of the incident. Police followed a trail of blood for more than a block but were unable to locate the scene of the attack.

SHOOTING: Western District -- Travis Player, 20, of the 2300 block of W. North Ave., told police he was riding a bike in the 2000 block of Bryant Ave. shortly before 2 a.m. yesterday when he was shot as he rode past an alley. Police said a man standing in the alley shot Mr. Player in the lower right back. Police said Mr. Player was found lying face down in the street by police responding to a report of a shooting. He was taken by ambulance to the Maryland Shock-Trauma Center, where he was listed today in serious condition. No arrest had been made.

THEFT: Southwestern District -- A resident of the Freeland section of northern Baltimore County reported that while his 1990 Toyota was parked in the 900 block of Caton Ave., someone broke into the vehicle through a vent window and stole a mobile telephone. Police said the property was valued at $500.

THEFT: Southwestern District -- Police said someone broke into a truck parked in the 3000 block of Lyttleton Road over the weekend and stole a battery. Police said the battery was valued at $70. The truck is owned by a company with offices in the 1500 block of Sulphur Spring Road.

THEFT: Southwestern District -- Employees of Westside Auto Sales in the 2900 block of Wilkens Ave. reported that someone broke into a car while it was parked on the lot and stole equipment valued at $200.

THEFT: Southwestern District -- A resident of the 1800 block of Arbutus Ave. told police his car was parked in the 1000 block of WilsoDrive over the weekend when someone broke into the vehicle and stole a stereo radio and other items. Police said the property was valued at more than $500.

ASSAULT: Northern District -- A resident of the 4200 block of Ivanhoe Ave. reported he and a woman he knows were arguing in front of his house around 9 p.m. Saturday when the woman cut him on the face and hands with a knife. Police said the man was not seriously injured and refused medical treatment. The woman fled the scene and was being sought by police.

THEFT: Northern District -- A 24-year-old resident of New York reported that while her 1981 Toyota was parked in the 500 block of E. 42nd St. over the weekend someone broke into the vehicle and stole a pair of mountain climbing shoes and several other pieces of property. Police said the property was valued at nearly $400.

THEFT: Northern District -- Police said someone entered the bedroom of a house in the 2400 block of W. Cold Spring Lane between Feb. 15 and yesterday and stole several pieces of jewelry. Police said rings, chains and other pieces of jewelry stolen were valued at more than $2,400.

ASSAULT/ARRESTS: Northern District -- Police arrested two men and were holding them at the station pending charges they pointed a handgun at a resident of the 3200 block of Woodland Ave. during an incident Saturday in the 2500 block of Loyola Southway. Police said the victim was not injured. The suspects were to appear at a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- Police said someone broke into a dwelling in the 6400 block of Chinquapin Parkway and stole a VCR, camera and a photographic lens. Police said the property was valued at nearly $1,700 and that the break-in occurred between March 5 and yesterday.

THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the 500 block of Crestline Drive reported that someone broke into his car during the weekend while it was parked in the 3700 block of Keswick Road and stole tapes, a compact disc player and other items. Police said the property was valued at more than $500.

THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the 6000 block of The Alameda reported that someone stole a check made out to him for more than $900 and cashed it in Washington. Police said the check was stolen last month and cashed recently.

THEFT: Northern District -- Police reported that property valued at more than $200 was stolen from a car while it was parked in the 2700 block of N. Howard St. The owner of the car, a resident of the 2700 block, told police the thief escaped with a suit, cassette tapes and keys. Police said entry was gained by breaking one of the vehicle's windows.
