Weekend arrests by city police close four homicide cases.

Baltimore police closed a 9-year-old homicide case over the weekend with the arrest of a man who was trying to hide in his basement. It was one of four homicide arrests by city police over the weekend.

Police said Howard Harrington, 30, of the 100 block of S. Hilton St., was charged with the fatal shooting of Maurice Jackson, of the 800 block of MacAleer Court, on Feb. 15, 1983.

Mr. Jackson was 28 and Mr. Harrington was 21 at the time of the killing in the 900 block of Argyle Ave.

Mr. Harrington was found at 5 a.m. Saturday by members of the city's escape and apprehension unit and the U.S. Marshal's Service. He was charged with first-degree murder and handgun violations.

In other weekend arrests:

* Jarmal Johnson, 20, of no fixed address, was arrested Friday in a drug raid and charged with the Feb. 29 shooting death of Stanley Hill, 40, of the 2400 block of Brentwood Ave.

Police said Mr. Hill died after being shot in the 400 block of E. 24th St. Mr. Johnson was arrested in the 600 block of Baker St.

* Michael Foster Felton, 19, of the 1200 block of Harwood Ave., was arrested at his home Friday and charged with the Jan. 14 shooting death of Sergio Gladden, 22, of the 1600 block of Burnwood Road.

* Charlotte McClain, 28, of the 700 block of W. Saratoga St., was arrested yesterday and charged with beating to death Purcell Crowder, 69, of the 5000 block of Carmine Ave., on April 16, 1991.
