Council Hearing On Adult Bookstores Scheduled

March 08, 1992

A hearing on a bill that would set zoning restrictions for future adult bookstores has been scheduled for 6 p.m. April 7 in the County Council Chambers, Level A of the County Courthouse on Main Street in Bel Air.

The bill, introduced last week by Councilman Philip J. Barker, D-Havre de Grace, would exempt the four existing county adult bookstores. Three of the four bookstores are on U.S. 40; one is on U.S. 1 in Fallston.

Under the proposal, new adult bookstores would have to operate atleast 1,000 feet from a school, church, day-care center, park or residential area. The bill would apply to stores whose "principal business" is the sale or rental of sexually explicit videos, movies, magazines and other printed materials.
