Howard County government will observe the first annual "Business Appreciation Week" tomorrow through Friday.
County officials and members of the Economic Development Advisory Council and the Private Industry Council will visit approximately 100 businesses in an effort to learn more about the firms and express support for companies investing in Howard County.
The opening ceremony will take place at 8:15 a.m. Monday in the Howard Building.
NETWORK SEMINAR SET
Hammerman Associates, a Columbia-based microcomputer training and consulting firm, will offer a free one-evening seminar, "Introduction to Local Area Networks," at 7 p.m. Tuesday and March 24.
The seminars are designed for business owners, managers and administrators and are open to the public.

ECKER SPEAKS TO CHAMBER
The Howard County Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a general membership luncheon for 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Columbia Inn.
County Executive Charles I. Ecker will present a "state of the county" address.
Cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
Shirley Burrill, executive director of Howard County Leadership, will speak at the next meeting of the Howard County Business Women's Networkat 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18 at the Columbia Inn.
The cost is$17 for members and $22 for non-members.

"Leadership in Engineering," a seminar that will discuss topics such as effective communication, motivation, creativity, and women in engineering, takes place from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. March 26 in the Kossiakoff Center at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab.
The seminar, sponsored by the Societyof Fire Protection Engineers, costs $70.
