John Edward Miller

John Edward Miller, retired superintendent of the Queen Anne's County schools, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital in Easton after a heart attack. The Centreville resident was 60.

Services for Mr. Miller were being held today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cordova.

Mr. Miller retired July 1. He had been superintendent of the county school system since 1979.

Born in Cumberland, he was a 1949 graduate of Fort Hill High School and a 1953 graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park, where he also earned a master's degree in 1960.

Mr. Miller was a member of many professional, civic, fraternal or religious organizations.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, the former Kathryn Roe; two daughters, Susanne M. Smith and Emily M. George, both of Centreville; two sons, Samuel E. and Andrew B. Miller, both of Centreville; his father, Ralph S. Miller of Cumberland; a sister, Sharon L. Miller of Cumberland; and six grandchildren.

The family suggested memorial contributions to the Education Building Fund of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cordova or the Queen Anne's County Chapter of the American Heart Association.
