Autopsies are due for slain couple

March 03, 1992

An autopsy was to be performed today on a couple whose bodies were found yesterday in the basement of their home, Havre de Grace city police said.

Police said the deaths of Livingston Platt Ellingham, 50, and his wife, Barbara Jean, 45, both of the 500 block of Fountain St., appeared to be the result of a murder-suicide.

The two were found about 8:30 p.m. by a son who went to check on why his parents had not picked up a younger son from school yesterday.

Police recovered a rifle and a handgun at the scene. Police said it is unclear what happened at the house, although it appears to be a homicide-suicide.

The autopsy, police said, was expected to determine which victim was murdered and which committed suicide and if both weapons or only one was fired.
