Foresters assess damage from a 60-acre fire

March 02, 1992

Forestry and fire officials today were assessing damage caused by a large brush fire in the Hunt Valley area of the Loch Raven Reservoir watershed.

Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire, which covered about 60 acres, said Battalion Chief Ralph A. Nelson of the Baltimore County Fire Department.

The fire, near the intersection of Paper Mill and Ashland roads, was discovered about 1 p.m. yesterday and brought under control in about two hours.

About 80 firefighters from eight companies battled the fire. Two firefighters experienced minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Smoke could be seen for miles around.

Strong winds carried the fire uphill and through the wooded area fairly quickly, said Lt. Lewis Smith.
