Pizza deliveryman accused of theft

February 28, 1992

A northwest Baltimore pizza deliveryman who claimed he was abducted, robbed and locked in the trunk of his car Wednesday was charged yesterday with theft and with making a false report.

Leoeidas Fowlkes, 31, of the 5400 block of Denmore Ave., had told city police he was making a delivery for Valley Pizza to an apartment in the 3400 block of Dorithan Road about 9:30 p.m. when he was accosted by two men.

Mr. Fowlkes said the men, one of them brandishing a handgun, then forced him to drive to the 3400 block of Edgewood Road, where they robbed him of $85 and locked him in the trunk. He said he was able to free himself and contact police.

During a follow-up interview with investigators about 5:30 p.m. yesterday, he was confronted with inconsistencies in his story, said Sgt. James Cappuccino.

Mr. Fowlkes was charged with making a false report to the police and with the theft of the $85 he had collected on his pizza rounds. He was being held in the Northwestern District lockup prior to an appearance before a court commissioner.
