Sr. M. Mildred Kane

Sister Mary Mildred Kane, S.S.N.D., retired lower-school librarian at the Notre Dame Preparatory School, died Tuesday of heart failure at St. Joseph Hospital. She was 81.

A Mass of Christian burial for Sister Mildred will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the chapel of Villa Assumpta, the mother house of the School Sisters of Notre Dame at 6401 N. Charles St.

She had lived at Villa Assumpta since 1984.

She retired in 1982. She taught eighth grade for a year before becoming the lower school's librarian.

The Baltimore native was a graduate of St. Brigid's School and the Institute of Notre Dame. She earned a degree in education at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and a master's degree in library science at Villanova University.

She entered the religious order in 1928.

Her survivors include several nieces and nephews.
