Baltimore City

SHOOTING: Northeastern District -- A man was shot last night when he answered a knock at his door in the 5600 block of The Alameda. Police said Robert M. Plato, 21, answered a knock around 8 p.m. and was shot at by someone standing on the front porch. Police said Mr. Plato was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where physicians found lead fragments in an eye. Then he was taken to the Wilmer Eye Clinic at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he underwent emergency treatment to remove the lead fragments and repair the damage. Police said it appeared that the bullet fired at the victim struck something else and a bullet fragment hit him in the face. Police said they had no motive for the shooting.

ROBBERY: Central District -- A man who was in the 700 block of Ploy St. yesterday afternoon after leaving a nearby First National Bank branch was stopped by two men, one reportedly armed with a handgun, who robbed him of his wallet containing about $50 and his 24-hour bank card. Police said the victim was taken to his car and forced to drive to an automated teller machine in the vestibule of a bank in the 300 block of St. Paul St. Police said that when the victim neared the machine, with the two men following close behind, he darted into the main lobby of the building and told employees to call police. In the meantime, the robbers escaped.

ROBBERY: Central District -- A man who was walking in the 700 block of Tyson St. around 2 p.m. Monday was stopped by two men who robbed him of nearly $30 and then ordered him back into his car. Police said the man was forced to drive to a Maryland National Bank in the first block of Light St., where he made out a personal check for $500 and was given cash. Outside the bank, the victim gave the money to the men, who escaped on foot.

ROBBERY: Central District -- A resident of Chesapeake Commons, an apartment building in the 600 block of N. Eutaw St., told police she was getting out of her car near her home around 10:30 p.m. yesterday when she was accosted from behind by a man with a handgun, who robbed her of her purse. She told police that during the robbery, the man pressed the weapon against the side of her head and threatened to shoot if she didn't give up her property. Police said the man escaped with nearly $100, jewelry, credit cards and other items.

ROBBERY: Northwestern District -- Two men wearing hooded jackets robbed a jewelry store at Mondawmin Mall Tuesday evening of jewelry valued at more than $80,000. Police said the two men entered the Gift Bazaar shortly before the 9 p.m. closing time and asked to see a watch. While a clerk was showing a watch to the men, one of them pulled out a handgun. Police said the men stole several pieces of jewelry from a display case and escaped.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A resident of the 2300 block of Winchester St. was taking out the trash late Tuesday night in the back yard of his home when he was accosted by three men, one armed with a handgun, who forced him to give up his money. Police said the armed man and his accomplices escaped with $30.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Property valued at more than $300 was stolen from a dwelling in the 3900 block of Stokes Drive after someone got in through the front window. Police said the intruder escaped with a TV and a VCR.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Someone broke into a dwelling in the 900 block of Ellicott Drive yesterday by forcing a rear door and stole property of undetermined value.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Two men, one armed with what appeared to be a handgun, accosted a man walking in the 4600 block of Edmondson Ave. early yesterday and robbed him of his wallet and cash. The victim told police that during the robbery, one of the men pressed a hard object to his head and threatened to kill him if he didn't cooperate. Police said the men escaped with $40.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- A man who was walking in the 600 block of Wildwood Parkway early Tuesday was stopped by two men, one with a handgun, who ordered him to lie on the ground and to cover his eyes. Then the gunman and his accomplice robbed the man of his leather jacket and tennis shoes, all valued at nearly $300.

ROBBERY: Northwestern District -- A deliveryman for a pizza shop reported he was about to deliver a food order to a customer in the 3300 block of Dorithan Road around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when he was accosted by two men, one with a handgun, who forced him back into his 1979 Buick and ordered him to drive them to the 3400 block of Edgewood Road. There, the gunman and his accomplice robbed the victim of $85, locked him in the trunk of the car and fled. Later, the victim freed himself and called police.

THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the 700 block of E. 36th St. reported that while his 1982 Ford van was parked near his home yesterday, someone broke into it and stole stereo radio equipment valued at more than $300.
