City man shot, killed outside home

A 21-year-old West Baltimore man died early today after he was shot in the head last night as he got out of a car near his home.

Police identified the victim as David Lee Walker Jr., of the 700 block of N. Carey St.

Mr. Walker died at 5:30 a.m. at the Maryland Shock-Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was being treated for a single gunshot wound to his head.

Police said Mr. Walker was getting out of his Jeep in front of his house shortly after 10 p.m. when he was shot.

Police received a call about gunshots and found Mr. Walker lying on the pavement.

Investigators said the shooting appeared to be drug-related but offered no other details and said they had no suspects.

Mr. Walker was the 52nd homicide victim in Baltimore this year. Police had tallied 49 homicides in the city as of this date last year.
