CANDID CLOSET

February 26, 1992

Dominick Giangrasso is the assistant designer at Jos. A. Bank Clothiers. He works with designer Alessio Mattucci in making patterns, draping and testing coats. After graduating from Patapsco High School in Dundalk, he began working on the company's dock, but later graduated to the design department. When he's not working, he enjoys biking and soccer.

How would you describe your taste in clothing?

I'm pretty casual. I dress up on the job here; outside I dress down. I don't like anything too flashy or loud, but I do put together my individual look. Right now I like the idea of a sweater tucked into pants and belted.

What's the newest thing in your closet?

I got paisley night-shirt pajamas for Valentine's Day.

What's the oldest thing in your closet?

My old jeans are still around. I wear them a lot to kick around in.

Do you have a true standby that you wear to feel good?

I have a sport coat they made up for me at work from fabric that was never put into production. The jacket is an off-shade of green and I wear it with black gabardine pants or jeans. With the employee discount and the high quality it's a real bargain.

What have you held on to for sentimental reasons?

I have a gold tie and cummerbund that was made from the same fabric as the dress of a girl I took to a prom. She's no longer my girlfriend but I keep it.

What is your wardrobe weakness?

I have lots of pants in all colors -- earth tones, greens, olive.

What's the most expensive item in your closet?

My suits from Jos. Bank.

What's the least expensive item in your closet?

I found a J. Crew T-shirt at a discount store for about $4.

What's the wildest outfit you ever bought?

I don't wear anything wild, but people do notice how I put things together. In school, I was like any other student and lived in jeans. Now, I'm more conscious of my clothes.

What are your favorite accessories?

I like watches and have about 8. And I like ties that look a little different. Right now, I go for polka dots because they give clothes an updated look.

Do you have any shopping tips to share?

Stay away from trendy clothing. I see people in things that look stupid because they were last year's flash. Buy quality. I like stores such as the Gap and hit the discount stores sometimes. I never look for anything in particular but know a Ralph Lauren shirt will be well made.

L If you could buy any clothes you wanted, what would you buy?

It would be Armani suits. They drape beautifully.
