Baltimore City

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- Police reported that a man with a sawed-off shotgun entered the Merit gas station in the 500 block of N. Franklintown Road early yesterday and forced an employee to give him money from the cash register. Police said the gunman escaped with a little more than $100.

ROBBERY: Southwestern District -- A Royal cab driver told police he was driving a passenger in the 2800 block of W. Franklin St. around 6 a.m. yesterday when the passenger ordered him to stop. Police said the passenger, who was wearing a white hooded sweat shirt, pulled out a handgun and ordered the cabbie to give up his money. Police said the driver gave more than $100 to the gunman, who escaped on foot.

ROBBERY TRY: Southwestern District -- A man tried to rob a grocery store in the 1500 block of N. Poplar Grove St. yesterday afternoon but fled without taking any money. Police said a man with a handgun entered the P&M grocery store at 1518 N. Poplar Grove St. shortly after 2 p.m. and ordered an employee to give him money from the cash register. Police said something or someone apparently frightened the gunman, causing him to run out of the store without taking anything.

THEFT: Southwestern District -- A resident of the 3000 block of Gwynns Falls Parkway reported that someone broke a window of the car while it was parked in the 4400 block of Edmondson Ave. yesterday and stole property valued at nearly $1,000. Police said the thief escaped with a VCR, TV, radar detector and cassette tapes.

ROBBERY: Northwestern District -- Police said a resident of the first block of McKean Ave. was walking in the 4400 block of Garrison Blvd. early yesterday when he was stopped by a man who struck him with his fists several times, then robbed him of his money. Police said the man fled with more than $20 and the victim was taken to Sinai Hospital, where he was treated for injuries and released.

BURGLARY: Northwestern District -- Employees of the Guest House in the 3000 block of Liberty Heights Ave. reported that someone broke into the building early yesterday and stole property valued at more than $1,000. Police said entry was gained by breaking a front window.

ASSAULT: Northwestern District -- Police today were seeking a man who pointed a handgun at a man in the 5600 block of Belle Ave. early yesterday. Police said the armed man did not fire the weapon and had fled by the time officers arrived.

RAPE TRY: Northwestern District -- Police said a woman was walking in the 3800 block of Reisterstown Road around 7 a.m. yesterday when she was accosted by a man who shoved her into an alley and forced her to disrobe. Police said the man was removing the woman's clothing and attempting to rape her when a passer-by saw the incident and called out, causing the attacker to flee. Police said the woman was shaken but was not injured.

ROBBERY: Northwestern District -- A resident of the 2000 block of N. Pulaski St. reported he was riding his bike in the 2900 block of Liberty Heights Ave. yesterday evening when he was stopped by an older man with a handgun who forced him off the bike and stole it. Police said the victim, a teen-ager, was not injured and the value of the bike was not known.

ROBBERY: Northwestern District -- A man with a handgun stopped a resident of the 3500 block of Woodland Ave. as he walked near his home around 10 p.m. yesterday and forced him to give up more than $100.

BURGLARY: Northwestern District -- Police reported that property valued at nearly $1,000 was stolen yesterday from a dwelling in the 3300 block of Woodland Ave. after it was forcibly entered.

ASSAULT: Northwestern District -- A resident of Randallstown reported he was in the 4800 block of Litchfield Ave. late yesterday evening when he was attacked by a man who struck him several times with a handgun. Police said the victim was taken to Sinai Hospital, where he was treated and released.

SHOOTING: Eastern District -- Three people were reported shot Friday night while playing basketball in the 1300 block of Homewood Ave. Police said a man with a gun walked onto the basketball court around 6 p.m. and began firing. Police said Wayne McNeil, 14, of the 700 block of E. Preston St., was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was listed today in stable condition with a bullet wound to the lower back. Albert Kelly, 15, of the 1200 block of N. Bond St., was taken to Union Memorial Hospital and was listed today in good condition. The most seriously injured of the three, Sheraton McElwee, 20, of the 1000 block of Ashland Court, was listed in critical condition today at Hopkins. Police said they had no motive for the shootings and that no arrest had been made.
