Navy Seaman Recruit David W. Thornton, son of Elizabeth A. Blout of Sykesville, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.

Thornton joined the Navy in October 1991.

SCARFE COMMISSIONED

2nd Lt. Stephen C. Scarfe, son of Jean Goodling of Dayton, was commissioned to his present rank upon graduation from Officer CandidateSchool.

Scarfe is a 1986 graduate of Glenelg High School and a 1990 graduate of Virginia Technical Institute.

HOWARD GRAD IN MARINES

Marine Pvt. Michael F. Gaither, son of Roderick and JoAnn Gaither of Columbia, completed recruit training in Parris Island, S.C.

Gaither is a 1986 graduate of Howard High School.

CPL. DEPLOYED OVERSEAS

Marine Lance Cpl. Mark T. Thurston, son of Peggy L. Merson of Woodbine, was deployed to the Mediterranean for six months with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Thurston is a 1988 graduate of Glenelg High School.

PVT. LEARNS VEHICLE REPAIR

Army Pvt. Roy L. Hubbard, son of David E. Hubbard of Columbia, completed a wheel-vehicle repaircourse at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

Students were taught replacement, troubleshooting and adjustment of components and assemblies of wheeled vehicles.
