Cincinnati Reds -- Arbitrator awarded P Greg Swindell (9-16, 3.48 ERA with the Indians) $2.5 million salary, rather than his request of $3,675,000. Swindell made $2,025,000 last season. Agreed to terms with P Steve Foster (1.93 in 11 games) and P Mo Sanford (1-2, 3.86) on one-year contracts.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Agreed to terms with C Carlos Hernandez (.214 in 14 AB), C Mike Piazza, P Jamie McAndrew (son of former major-leaguer Jim McAndrew) and P Mike James on one-year contracts.

New York Mets -- Signed IF Kevin Baez and P Eric Hillman tone-year contracts.

New York Yankees -- Fired Leonard Kleinman, chief operating officer and executive vice president.

San Diego Padres -- Agreed to terms with free-agent IF Kurt Stillwell (.265, 6 HRs, 51 RBI with the Royals) on a $3.5 million, two-year contract. He made $1.28 million last season. Designated P Adam Peterson (3-4, 4.45 ERA) for assignment.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Agreed to terms with 1B John Olerud (.256, 17, 68) and P Pat Hentgen (2.45 in 3 games) on one-year contracts.

Holy Cross -- Named Tony Ball offensive backfield coach.

Missouri -- Basketball team suspended G Anthony Peeler for tomorrow's game because he missed a class.

Northern Colorado -- Announced that the contracts of Ron Brillhart, men's basketball coach, and Janet Schafer, women's basketball coach, will not be renewed.

Ohio State -- Announced the resignation of offensive coordinator Elliot Uzelac, former Navy coach.

Buffalo Bills -- Signed LB Richard Harvey and LB Darrell Davis, Plan B free agents.

Los Angeles Rams -- Named Chris Clausen strength and conditioning coach.

Miami Dolphins -- Signed QB Scott Mitchell to a one-year contract and sent him on loan to the Orlando Thunder of the WLAF.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Signed P Dan Stryzinski to a two-year contract.
