PIZZERIA NEAPOLITAN 2525 Putty Hill Ave., Parkville. Open 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays, noon to 11 p.m. Sundays. Call (410) 882-7688. The grand-opening specials and a couple of healthy appetites for "gooey" food attracted us to this new carryout in the renovated Putty Hill Shopping Center. We weren't disappointed.

You can get anything Italian at the Neapolitan, including stromboli, calzone, pizzaburgers and sausage rolls. They also offer a few concessions to seafood lovers -- crab cakes and fried shrimp -- and some cold-cut selections.

We opted for lasagna, $5.95 -- one of 10 homemade pasta dinners on the menu -- and pizza. The huge portion of lasagna was almost too much for one person. It was very tasty, with the beef, cheeses and tomato sauce nicely blended.

All pasta dinners include two slices of garlic bread and a sizable garden salad. The mozzarella cheese in the salad was a nice surprise.

Our Neapolitan-style pepperoni pizza was thick and saucy. The carryout also serves white pizza, for those who eschew tomato sauce, and Sicilian for thick-crust lovers. Pizza prices range from $3.75 for a 10-inch cheese, which serves two weight-conscious adults, to $17.50 for the 16-inch deluxe, which serves a small army.

The Neapolitan also offers hot and cold subs, a variety of salads and side orders of fried finger food. If you still have room for dessert, you'll find cannoli, $1.95, and (ahhh!) cheesecake, $2.25, on the menu.
