Cross country skiing: Elena Vialbe of the Unified Team has four medals -- one gold and three bronze -- and she is favored for another in the women's 30 kilometers.

Alpine skiing: American Julie Parisien skied boldly to a first-run lead, but succumbed to pressure and Austria's Petra Kronberger and finished fourth in the slalom.
