Houston Astros -- Agreed to terms with former Orioles OF Steve Finley (.285, 8 HRs, 54 RBI) on a one-year contract worth $1.12 million. Finley, who made $300,000 last season, had asked for $1.3 million in arbitration; the club had offered $875,000.
New York Mets -- Agreed to terms with P Joe Vitko, C Brook Fordyce, IF Chris Donnels (.225, 0 HRs, 5 RBI) and OF Pat Howell on one-year contracts.
New York Yankees -- Acquired 3B Charlie Hayes (.230, 12 HRs, 53 RBI) from the Phillies to complete the Jan. 8 trade that sent P Darrin Chapin to Philadelphia. Designated P Alan Mills for assignment.
Texas Rangers -- Arbitrator awarded OF Ruben Sierra (.307, 25, 116) $5 million salary, rather than the $3.8 million the club had offered. He made $2.65 million last season.
