Alpine skiing: Julie Parisien, Eva Twardokens, Heidi Voelker and Monique Pelletier lead the American hopefuls in the slalom, the last race on the treacherous Roc de Fer. Alpine skiing: Sweden's Pernilla Wiberg, the reigning world champion in women's giant slalom, captured the Olympic title with two error-free runs. American Diann Roffe came from ninth place on the first run to finish in a second-place tie with Austria's Anita Wachter.
