Abrams' layup leads Arundel past Northeast in OT, 75-73 Basketball

Rich Abrams' layup with two seconds remaining in overtime lifted visiting Arundel (8-11, 5-4) over Northeast (5-14, 3-7), 75-73, yesterday in an Anne Arundel County Bay Division game.

Abrams, who made a layup as time expired in regulation to tie the game, led Arundel with 23 points.

Gene Pleyo scored 28 points for Northeast, making him the school's all-time scoring leader with 978 career points.

Rob Wooster scored 37 points as No. 4 Annapolis (18-1, 7-0) edged visiting Old Mill (11-8, 3-5), 76-74, in an Anne Arundel County Friendship Division game.

Richard Dent's 16 points led five scorers in double figures as No. 6 Cardinals Gibbons (22-12, 5-5) defeated visiting Poly (5-13, 1-10), 67-55, in a Maryland Scholastic Association A Conference Division II game.

Steve Kraning scored 26 to lead No. 8 Loyola (21-9, 6-5) over visiting Northwestern (5-14, 2-9), 78-58, in a MSA A Conference Division I game.

Al Lee scored 26 to lead No. 16 South River (17-3, 9-1) over visiting Southern (11-8, 6-3), 92-82, in an Anne Arundel County Bay Division game.

Girls

Erin Graham's game-high 24 points led host Woodlawn (14-5, 13-4) to a 74-49 upset over No. 15 Catonsville (14-3, 14-3).

Emily Yanero and Kris Bryant combined for 31 points to lead top-ranked Mount Hebron (18-1, 11-0) over host and No. 12 Hammond (14-4, 7-4) in a Howard County League game. Hammond's Kacy Williams scored 27.

Sarah Bannat made two foul shots with seven seconds left to lift No. 7 Broadneck (15-3, 7-1) over visiting North County (11-9, 4-6), 34-32, in an Anne Arundel Bay Division game.
