Baltimore Orioles -- Traded 3B Craig Worthington and minor league P Tom Martin to the San Diego for P Jim Lewis and OF Steve Martin.

Boston Red Sox -- Agreed to a one-year, $2.3 million contract with OF Ellis Burks (.251, 14 HR, 56 RBI). Burks, who made $1.825 million last season, had sought $2.7 million in arbitration; the club had offered $2 million. Also agreed to terms with P John Cerutti (3-6, 4.57 ERA) on a minor-league contract.

Cincinnati Reds -- Agreed to a one-year, $2.1 million contract with P Tim Belcher (10-9, 2.62). Belcher, who made $900,000 last season, had sought $2.35 million in arbitration; the club had offered $1.75 million.

Kansas City Royals -- Agreed to a one-year, $2.41 million contract with P Jeff Montgomery (4-4, 2.90 ERA). Montgomery, who made $1.085 million last season, had sought $2.8 million in arbitration; the club had offered $1.8 million.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Agreed to terms with P Cal Eldred, P Mike Ignasiak, P Mark Kiefer, IF John Jaha, IF Pat Listach, C Dave Nilsson and C Joe Kmak on one-year contracts.

Seattle Mariners -- Agreed to a one-year, $1,392,500 contract with P Randy Johnson (13-10, 3.98). Johnson, who made $380,000 last season, sought $1.65 million in arbitration; the club offered $1.05 million. The Mariners also agreed to a one-year contract worth $1.345 million with P Erik Hanson (8-8, 3.81 ERA). Hansen, who made $400,000 last season, had sought $1.6 million in arbitration; the club had offered $1.025 million.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Agreed to one-year, $2.425 million contract with P Duane Ward (7-6, 2.77 ERA). Ward, who made $800,000 last season, had sought $2.9 million in arbitration; the club had offered $1.8 million. Also agreed to one-year contracts with OF Derek Bell, C Ed Sprague and 1B Domingo Martinez.

Basketball

NBA -- Suspended Willie Burton of the Miami Heat for one game and fined him $6,000 for an altercation with Johnny Newman of the Charlotte Hornets Sunday. Newman was fined $1,500.

Colleges

Purdue -- Named Tom Freeman offensive line coach.

St. Bonaventure -- Announced that athletic director Lawrence Weise will retire this year.

Hockey

Buffalo Sabres -- Recalled D Bill Houlder from Rochester of the American Hockey League.

Montreal Canadiens -- Lifted the suspension of LW Shayne Corson after he told coach Pat Burns he would stay out of bars for the rest of the season. Corson was suspended indefinitely by general manager Serge Savard last Friday after getting into a late-night fight at a downtown Montreal bar.
