Baltimore City

THEFT: Central District -- A woman who was shopping in the Light Street Pavilion at Harborplace yesterday reported that someone stole her purse, which contained cash and property valued at $100.

THEFT: Central District -- A resident of the 700 block of St. Paul St. reported that while her car was parked near her home yesterday afternoon, someone broke into the trunk and stole a leather coat valued at nearly $200.

ROBBERY: Central District -- A woman walking in the 600 block of St. Paul St. yesterday evening was stopped by two men who struck her in the face and stole her wallet, which contained an unknown sum of money.

THEFT: Central District -- An out-of-town resident reported that her car, parked in the 600 block of St. Paul St. yesterday evening, was broken into by someone who stole a leather coat valued at more than $700. Entry into the vehicle was by breaking a window.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Employees of Joseph T. Hirsh Inc., in the 3000 block of St. John's Ave., reported that someone broke into the garage through a window over the weekend and stole an undisclosed sum from a cash box. Police said a former employee is suspected of taking the money.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- A resident of a house in the 1500 block of Wadsworth Way reported that during a wake at her home last week, someone stole jewelry valued at nearly $1,500 from a bedroom.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Someone entered a house in the 4700 block of Furley Ave. through an unlocked second-floor window early yesterday and stole a purse containing cash and property, all valued at $100.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- A resident of the first block of Greenwood Ave. reported that someone she knows entered her home over the weekend and stole furniture, valued at several hundred dollars, from the basement. Police said the victim was advised to seek a warrant for the suspect's arrest.

THEFT: Northern District -- A Pimlico man said someone broke into his car through a rear window over the weekend while it was parked in the 500 block of Ready Ave. and stole property valued at more than $300.

CHURCH BURGLARY: Northern District -- Officials of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in the 3900 block of Roland Ave. reported that someone broke into the main building Sunday or yesterday and stole a quantity of coins of unknow value.

THEFT: Northern District -- A resident of the 300 block of Paddington Road reported that someone broke into his 1991 Honda over the weekend while it was parked near his home and stole property valued at more than $1,200. The victim told police the thief escaped with 60 compact discs, a basketball and personal papers.

THEFT: Northern District -- Police reported that someone broke into a 1991 Ford parked in the 400 block of Croydon Road over the weekend and stole a purse containing $100. Police said the total value of the purse, the money and other property in the purse came to nearly $170.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- Someone got into a house in the 900 block of Argonne Drive by breaking a front window yesterday morning and stole a pearl necklace and office equipment with a total value of at least $600.

THEFT/ARREST: Western District -- Police yesterday arrested a juvenile yesterday evening and charged him with auto theft after stopping him in the 1000 block of Bennett Place while he drove a 1990 Jeep that had been reported stolen from Baltimore County. Following charges of auto theft, the youth was released to the custody of his parents pending action by juvenile authorities.

ASSAULT/ARREST: Western District -- Police arrested a man yesterday and were holding him at the station pending aggravated assault charges. They said a female resident of the 500 block of Gold St. reported that she was assaulted at her home Sunday night by a man who struck her with his fists and then tried to stab her with a sword. Police said she was not seriously injured. The suspect, police said, was expected to be charged today and then appear at a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

THEFT: Western District -- A woman told police she was standing outside a tavern in the 1200 block of W. Baltimore St. Sunday afternoon when a man approached and grabbed $100 from her hand. Police said the man escaped.

BURGLARY: Western District -- Four men who broke into a dwelling in the 1500 block of N. Fulton Ave. spotted police officers who were responding to the break-in and escaped. Police said entry was gained by kicking in a side door and that no property was taken.

ASSAULT: Western District -- A man walking in an alley behind the 1900 block of W. Fairmount Ave. Sunday evening was accosted by several men who struck him with their fists and unknown weapons. Police said the victim, who lives nearby, was taken by ambulance to Bon Secours Hospital, where he was treated for bruises and cuts and released.
