Richard James Barnstein, 64, a pressman at The Sun and Evening Sun for almost 49 years, died Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital after a heart attack a week earlier.
Services for Mr. Barnstein, of Perry Hall, were being held today at the Lassahn Funeral Home, 7401 Belair Road.
He began working in the pressroom in May 1943 and was senior employee there when he died.
For the past six years, Mr. Barnstein had worked on the press maintenance crew. He recently completed three weeks of training at the newspapers' Port Covington facility.
"He always had a funny story or a joke," said William Christopher, a pressman for 39 years.
Mr. Barnstein enjoyed going to flea markets, he said.
He was a member of the Baltimore Newspaper Graphic Communications Union No. 31.
