DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Dale Earnhardt. A lot of competitors are already sick of hearing his name, and the Daytona 500 hasn't even been run yet.

Earnhardt won for the second time in two days yesterday, with a victory in the Goody's 300 Grand National race here at Daytona International Speedway.

And it may very well have been a preview of today's 500, for the 110,000 fans in the grandstands.

The 34th annual Daytona 500 takes the green flag at noon (Channel 11, 9).

"It has been a very good week for us -- so far," Earnhardt said, after beating defending Daytona 500 winner Ernie Irvan to the finish line by .22 of a second. "I'd like to be back here in victory lane again [today]."

Earnhardt won the International Race of Champions on Friday with a bold move off the fourth turn. Yesterday, he simply kept his car in front for 101 of the 120 laps in this 300-miler. He collected $38,068 for the victory and averaged 132.434 mph, in a race marred by six accidents.

Three drivers suffered injuries that forced them to be taken to Halifax Medical Center.

Robert Huffman was burned when his car caught fire after a collision. He suffered burns on his face, neck, right shoulder and forearm, and was held over night for observation. Joe Nemechek's car also caught fire, after blowing an engine and getting tagged twice in what became a 10-car accident. He suffered eye irritation from smoke and fire extinguisher chemicals, and suffered minor burns on his buttocks.

Jimmy Hensley, injured in another accident, had a hairline fracture of his right foot. He was placed in a walking cast. After a blood pressure check, Hensley was also sent to Halifax for a thorough checkup.
