A second county beauty salon has offered to make good on gift certificates from a Severna Park shop that closed last year.

Sylvia Campana, owner of Image Creators Inc. in Severna Park, said she would accept gift certificates from Elite Total Skin, Hair & Body Care if theyare redeemed within six months.

Elite, which was in the Severn Crossing office complex on RitchieHighway, closed without notice in late December, leaving many customers with gift certificates they could not use.

After learning about the customers' predicament, Todd August, co-owner of Morgan Gerard in Annapolis, stepped forward last week to say his shop would honor the certificates.

Campana decided her shop also would accept the certificates because it's close to Elite -- at 474-C Ritchie Highway --and because she has hired many of the closed shop's stylists.

"I think it would be more convenient for many of the customers to come here," she said. "Since the bulk of the stylists came here, I wanted to do something too."

A former employee of Elite said she believes there are "thousands of dollars" worth of certificates that haven't been used.

"Especially over the Christmas holidays, they did astronomical sales," said the employee, who asked not to be identified.

Elite, which was bought last June, closed six months later.

Terry DeLorge of Glen Burnie, who received Elite certificates for a manicure, facial and back massage as Christmas gifts, said she was shocked the salon sold certificates just days before the owners closed the shop. She said she's pleased other businesses are willing to help Elite's clients.

"It kind of restores your faith in the businessman," she said.
