Baseball Cincinnati Reds -- Agreed to one-year contracts with IF Jeff Branson, P Victor Garcia and P Jason Satre.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Hired former Pittsburgh Pirates GM Larry Doughty as a major-league scout for the 1992 season.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Agreed to a one-year contract with SS Bill Spiers (.283, 8 HR, 54 RBI). Spiers will get $750,000; he had asked for $1.05 million in arbitration and the Brewers had offered $525,000.

New York Yankees -- Agreed to one-year contracts with SS Alvaro Espinoza (.256, 5 HR, 33 RBI) and P Melido Perez (8-7, 3.12 ERA). Espinosa will get $1 million; he had asked for $1.3 million in arbitration and the Yankees had offered $800,000. Perez will get $1.165 million; he ad had asked for $1.3 million and the Yankees had offered $800,000.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Agreed to one-year contracts with P Wally Ritchie (1-2, 2.50 ERA) and P Darrin Chapin (10-3, 1.95 ERA, 12 saves in Class AAA).

Minnesota Timberwolves -- Placed C Felton Spencer on the injured list. Activated G Tom Garrick from the injured list.

Connecticut -- Named George Landis offensive coordinator, Greg Williams defensive coordinator and Warren Koegel defensive line coach.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Signed Plan B free agent K Ken Willis fTC of the Dallas Cowboys to a two-year contract.

Hockey

NHL -- Suspended Detroit Red Wings coach Bryan Murray for five games for failing to control a player. Murray was suspended after D Yves Racine left the penalty box to continue an altercation in the Wings' 5-5 tie with the New York Rangers on Sunday night. Racine was suspended without pay for 10 games.

Washington Capitals -- Recalled G Jim Hrivnak from the Baltimore Skipjacks.
