Thomas E. Shields, a National Security Agency employee for more than 30 years, died at Howard County General Hospital Thursday of lymphoma. He was 59.
Services for Mr. Shields were being held today at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church, 2600 Marriottsville Road in Marriottsville.
At his death, Mr. Shields was a staff-chief at NSA's operations at Fort Meade.
Mr. Shields was a member of Chapelgate Presbyterian Church and active in Bible study and ministry groups.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, the former Eileen Gowe; two daughters, Karen Dellinger of Silver Spring and Linda MacDougall of Kindsbach, Germany; a son, Timothy Shields of Lyndhurst, N.J.; a sister, Susan Jones of Belmont, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
The family suggests that contributions be made to the Chapelgate Building Fund at the church, or Christian Services of Howard County Inc., P.O. Box 21, Simpsonville 21150.
