Frederick J. Canitz

Frederick Joseph Canitz, a retired executive of the former Anchor Post Products Co., died yesterday at Franklin Square Hospital of heart failure. He was 86.

Services for Mr. Canitz will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Connelly Funeral Home, 300 Mace Ave., Essex.

Mr. Canitz grew up in Fells Point and received his high school diploma from the Polytechnic Institute.

He attended the Maryland Institute of Art and studied engineering for two years at Johns Hopkins University.

His only employer was Anchor Post, a manufacturer of chain-link fencing, where he worked for 48 years. At his retirement about 15 years ago, he was vice president and general superintendent.

He belonged to the United Evangelical Lutheran Church at East Avenue and Dillon Street.

He is survived by his wife, the former Rose Zinkand. A daughter, Mary Rose Pierson, died in 1980.
