Trout Serves On Frigate

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Randall W. Trout, son of Bernard T. andShirley M. Trout of Joppa, is deployed aboard the frigate USS RobertE. Peary, based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and is midway through a six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf, Indian and Western Pacific Oceans.

Although the primary mission of Trout's ship is escorting forces and task groups, he was recently able to visit some interesting ports during some goodwill stops to Sri Lanka, Colombo, and Madras, India. These stops were the first for the crew following three months of operations in the Persian Gulf.

Trout will be making several more stops in the South Pacific before returning to Hawaii.

The 1975 graduate of Edgewood High School joined the Navy in July 1975.


Army NationalGuard Pvt. Tara A. Bracey has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

During the training, students received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid and Army history and traditions.

She is the daughter of Millie G. Fields of Bel Air.


Air Force Sgt. Keith E. Simon, a law enforcement specialist, has arrived for duty at Langley Air Force Base, Va.

He is the son of Herbert T. and Regina S. Simon of Fallston.

The sergeant is a 1985 graduate of Fallston High School.


Marine Lance Cpl. Mark D. Burkhardt, son of Daniel Burkhardt of Abingdon, recently reported for duty with Marine Helicopter Squadron-One, Marine Corps Air Facility, Quantico, Va.

The 1990 graduate of Edgewood High School joined the Marine Corps in May 1991.


Navy Chief Petty Officer Leland R. Lawrence, son of Elaine E. Lawrence of Aberdeen, recently returned home aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Yorktown, based in Norfolk, Va., following a seven-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea.

As part of the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal battle group, USS Yorktown and her crew participated in Operation Provide Comfort and Exercise Display Determination '91. Lawrence also took part in several training exercises with the Bulgarian Navy, making the USS Yorktown only the second U.S. naval vessel to visit that country in more than 70 years.

Before leaving the Mediterranean, Lawrence visited many countries, including Italy, France, Israel, Turkey, Greece, Romania, and Egypt.

The 1979 graduate of Aberdeen High School joined the Navy in June 1980.
