Gunman Robs Bank In West Friendship

A man wearing gloves and a ski mask robbed a West Friendship bank Thursday morning after threatening one of the tellers with a handgun, county police said.

The man entered the Maryland National Bank, located in the 12600 block of Frederick Road, at 10:30 a.m. and ordered the teller to give him the money from her cash drawer, police said.

After being given an undisclosed amount of cash, the gunman fled out the door and drove off in a gray car, possibly a Pontiac or a Buick, police said. The car was last seen heading west on Route 144.

The FBI is assisting county police in the investigation.

DRIVER FLEESPOLICE, KILLED IN CRASH

A 33-year-old Severn man was killed when he refused to stop for Anne Arundel police, lost control of his car and smashed into a tree in Howard County early Thursday morning.

According to the police report, about 2:30 a.m. officers stopped Glenn Phillip Colston, of the 8200 block of Pioneer Circle, at the intersection of Ridge Road and Route 175 on suspicion of drunken driving.

When the officers began talking to Colston, he took off on Ridge Road. The officers found that Colston was wanted for violating probation.

They followed Colston into Howard County, where police there began chasing him. Police said he lost control of his car on Montevideo Road, ran off the road and hit a tree.

Colston was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

$1,500 IS TAKEN IN SPA ROBBERY

Three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, robbed $1,500 from employeesand customers of an massage parlor Wednesday and left the victims tied up on the floor, county police said.

The robbery of the EasternRainbow Spa, located in the Cherry Tree shopping center in Scaggsville, may have been committed by the same men who robbed another HowardCounty spa in August, investigators said.

Employees of the business reported that the three men, who appeared to be Korean, barged into the spa at 10:30 p.m. and ordered everyone to lie face down, policesaid.

The men took about $500 in cash from the business and an additional $1,000 from the employees and a customer, said the manager of the spa, who identified herself as Tammy Kim.

After tying the victim's hands and taping over the eyes of the manager, the men fled out the door, police said.

The spa is one of four such massage parlors in Howard County. One of the other businesses, the Tokyo Spa on Oakland Mills Road in Columbia, was robbed Aug. 15 by two armed men wholeft employees and customers locked in a laundry room.

Police said the robberies appear similar but no suspects have been identified.

6 ARE ARRESTED IN STOLEN VAN

Six people, including a juvenile, were arrested on auto theft charges Tuesday night after a police officerspotted them in a stolen van in Columbia, county police said.

Theofficer was on patrol at 11:30 p.m. in the 6400 block of Dobbin Center Way, where several businesses have been recently burglarized, whenhe saw a van with a Virginia license plate driving slowly through the area, police said.

After stopping the van for a check, the officer discovered that the van had been reported stolen from a rental dealership in Baltimore, police said.

Charged with felony theft were Michael T. Flute, 19, of Hanover; Glenn R. Broussard Jr., 18, of GlenBurnie; and a 17-year-old Baltimore County boy.

Also arrested were three Severn residents, Ronald L. West Jr., 26, Robert M. Horwath, 22, and Michael L. Werry, 20.

U.S. 40 near Patapsco State Park: A Volkswagen Jetta that had been reported stolen Monday from Baltimore was recovered at 6 p.m. the same day after having been abandoned. The car had been damaged after hitting a wall.

10300 block Burnside Drive: Two bicycles were reported stolen at 7 p.m. Wednesday froman unlocked storage shed.

4800 Dorsey Hall Drive: A 1989 Pontiac Grand Am automobile was reported stolen at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday from aresidential area.

8600 block Foundry Street: Several tools were reported stolen at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from a work site.

5500 block Cedar Lane: A 1987 Chevrolet Blazer vehicle was reported stolen at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday from the parking lot of Howard County General Hospital.

10200 block Wincopin Circle: A 1988 Pontiac Firebird was reported stolen at 9 a.m. Wednesday from a business parking lot.

6400 block Dobbin Center Way: Someone attempted to steal a 1985 Volkswagen Sirocco at 10 a.m. Monday from a business area.

6700 block Old Waterloo Road: A 1990 Chevrolet truck was reported stolen at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday from a residential area

10600 block Little Patuxent Parkway: A 1981 Plymouth Reliant was stolen sometime during the day Jan. 30 from a residential area.

9200 block Old Scaggsville Road: Boxes of jewelry were reported stolen at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday from a home entered through an unlocked screen door.
