Q: My wife bought a blown-glass Pairpoint lamp. We looked through some books and have been unable to find our lamp. Is there a book we can consult?

A. Pairpoint lamps, made from 1907 to 1929 in Bedford, Mass., have hand-painted designs that "puff," or stand out.

"Pairpoint Lamps," by Edward and Sheila Malakoff, is $97 postpaid from Schiffer Publishing Ltd., 1469 Morstein Road, West Chester, Pa. 19380; (215) 696-1001. The Malakoffs' book contains reproduced ads for these lamps and a separate "Pairpoint Lamp Rarity Guide." Edward Malakoff can be contacted at the Pairpoint Lamp Museum, 276 Princeton Drive, River Edge, N.J. 07661; (201) 487-1989.

Pairpoint lamp collectors and dealers are listed in "The 'u Collectors' Information Clearinghouse Antiques & Collectibles Resource Directory," by David J. Maloney Jr., available for $22.45 postpaid from Wallace-Homestead Book Co., 1 Chilton Way, Radnor, Pa. 19089-0230; (800) 695-1214.

Q: Where can I obtain books or publications on collectors' plates?

A: "Everybody's Guide to Plate Collecting," by Herschell and Margo Lewis, is $11.95 postpaid from Bonus Books, 160 E. Illinois St., Chicago, Ill. 60611; (312) 467-0580. This book explores the passion and pitfalls of plate collecting. The bimonthly Plate World, $19.50 for a year or $5.50 for a back issue, is available from Plate World, Circulation Service Center, Box 1085, Skokie, Ill. 60076-9911. Plates, dates issued and values are listed in the 1992 "Collectibles Market Guide & Price Index for Limited Edition Plates, Figurines, Bells, Graphics, Ornaments, and Dolls," by Diane Carnevale Jones. It is available for $22.95 postpaid from Collectors' Information Bureau, 2420 Burton S.E., Grand Rapids, Mich. 89546; (616) 942-6898.
