A 17-year-old Harford County youth was in critical condition today after he was shot last night during a robbery near an automated teller machine outside Reisterstown Road Plaza, police said.

Michael Morris, of the 1600 block of Ashby Square in Edgewood, was shopping with his father and a cousin about 8:40 p.m. when he left them and went outside the plaza in the 6500 block of Reisterstown Road to use the bank machine, police said.

Police said the Morris youth was followed by two men, one with a handgun, who accosted him either before or after he used the machine and robbed him of property, which police declined to identify.

For no apparent reason, the gunman shot the youth in the stomach, police said.

The wounded youth staggered back into the mall, where he told his father and cousin that he had been shot, police said.

An ambulance took the shooting victim to Sinai Hospital, police said.
