A Mass of Christian burial for retired engineer Louis Brent Ellis took place Feb. 3 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Glen Burnie.

Mr. Ellis, 82, died Jan. 29 at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Born in St. Mary's County, he attended the Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore City and Hamilton University in New York.

Mr. Ellis was a senior engineer at the Westinghouse Ocean Research and Engineering Center in Annapolis, and continued consulting work in the aerospace industry until the mid-1970s.

He began his career with the Martin Marietta Corp., for whom he worked for 25 years, at Middle River inMaryland and Cape Canaveral in Florida.

Mr. Ellis was the lead engineer for several aerospace projects, including the Gemini, Apollo, Titan I and Titan II programs. He was also lead engineer at Lockheed-Georgia, where he worked on the C-5A aircraft project.

A former member of the Holy Trinity congregation, he attended St. Andrew by the Bay. Mr. Ellis was also a former member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

He served as an altar boy for St. Peter's Apostle Church in Baltimore for 25 years and was a member of the St. John's Sanctuary of Altar Boys since 1924.

Preceded in death by his wife, Mr. Ellis is survived by his son, Louis Brent Ellis Jr. of Linthicum; two daughters,Nancy A. Gilmore of Melbourne, Fla., and Rhona L. Herold of Arnold; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements were by the Singleton Funeral Home.
